Grove
Product Smart Workpapers
04 · Workpapers

All your client documents, in return order.

Bookmarks, annotations, tick marks. Grove organizes every upload into your firm's workpaper structure — automatically, in return order, with intelligent flagging built in.

Multiple documents process in parallel. Grove identifies and files each one. Annotate inline, then export the bound PDF — all from one workspace.
How it works

From inbox chaos to a workpaper binder that builds itself.

01

Documents arrive from any source

Client upload, bulk PDF, email forward, scanner output.

02

Grove identifies and files each one

By form type, year, and entity. Renamed to your firm's convention.

03

You annotate, tick, and cross-reference

Without leaving the page. Annotations carry into the final return PDF.

What's inside

Everything a paper binder did — built automatically.

Smart form recognition

W-2, 1099 family (INT, DIV, B, MISC, NEC, R, K), K-1, 1098, brokerage statements, foreign forms — all identified on arrival.

Auto-rename to your convention

"1010 W-2 Acme.pdf" instead of "Scan_20250214_001.pdf". You set the format once.

Bulk PDF splitting

A merged 80-page PDF becomes 23 individual workpapers, each filed in the right folder.

Tick marks, highlights, notes

Click-to-tick, drag-to-highlight, sticky notes. Everything survives into the final binder PDF.

Duplicate & wrong-year flagging

Duplicate uploads consolidated. Prior-year forms flagged before they slip through. Inappropriate uploads quarantined.

Side-by-side compare

Open this year's workpaper alongside last year's. Every figure is one click from its prior-year match.

FAQ

Common questions, answered.

Can I import workpapers from another platform?

Yes. Drop in a binder PDF, a folder of PDFs, or an export from common workpaper tools. Grove re-categorizes everything to your structure.

How is the firm's naming convention set up?

A simple template per file type (e.g., {number} {form} {payer}.pdf). Set it once per firm; override per client if needed.

Are annotations preserved if a document is re-uploaded?

Yes. Annotations are stored separately from the source file and re-anchor automatically when a document is replaced with a corrected version.

How are tick marks shared between team members?

Tick marks are scoped to the workpaper, with an audit trail of who added each. Reviewers see who ticked what; partners can require sign-off.

Can workpapers be exported as a single PDF binder?

Yes. One click produces a bookmarked binder PDF with annotations baked in. Perfect for archive or partner review.

What happens to duplicate uploads?

Grove detects exact duplicates and near-duplicates (same form, same payer, same year). They're consolidated; the client doesn't get nagged for something they already sent.
